Goat Meat Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average goat meat import price stood at $6,739 per ton in August 2023, rising by 2.7% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 when the average import price increased by 3.1% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $7,962 per ton. From October 2022 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($7,115 per ton), while the price for New Zealand ($5,094 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (-0.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Goat Meat Price in the United States (FOB) - 2022
The average goat meat export price stood at $2,372 per ton in 2022, picking up by 12% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average export price increased by 29%. The export price peaked at $3,450 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turks and Caicos Islands ($7,775 per ton), while the average price for exports to Saint Lucia ($1,825 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turks and Caicos Islands (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Goat Meat Imports in the United States
In 2022, approx. 21K tons of goat meat were imported into the United States; growing by 10% against 2021 figures. Overall, imports posted a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 94% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, goat meat imports expanded sharply to $151M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +97.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 81% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
