In 2021, China (X tons) was the major exporter of textile products and articles for technical uses, committing 34% of total exports. The United States (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Mexico (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 28% share of total exports. From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to technical textiles exports from China stood at +4.6%. At the same time, the Netherlands (+17.6%), India (+12.4%), Poland (+11.2%), Mexico (+10.1%), Japan (+3.8%), the Czech Republic (+3.7%) and Germany (+3.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +17.6% from 2012-2021. The United States, Italy and France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belgium (-1.7%), Spain (-5.6%), Taiwan (Chinese) (-10.5%) and the UK (-14.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China, the Netherlands and Mexico increased by +4, +2.4 and +2.2 percentage points, respectively. Italy (-1.5 p.p.), Spain (-2 p.p.), the United States (-2.7 p.p.), the UK (-2.8 p.p.) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-3.7 p.p.) saw their shares reduced. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X), China ($X) and the United States ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 43% of global exports. These countries were followed by Japan, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Mexico, Poland, the Czech Republic, Spain, the UK, India and Taiwan (Chinese), which together accounted for a further 31%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +11.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 3.9% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

At the same time, the Philippines (+15.4%), India (+9.3%), the Netherlands (+7.5%), Canada (+6.1%), Japan (+6.0%), Indonesia (+5.9%), Italy (+5.5%), Germany (+2.9%), Poland (+2.6%), China (+1.6%) and Mexico (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +15.4% from 2012-2021. Russia and Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, France (-1.1%) and the UK (-4.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United States increased by +5 percentage points. The UK (-1.8 p.p.) saw their shares reduced. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest technical textiles importing markets worldwide were the United States ($X), Germany ($X) and China ($X), with a combined 31% share of global imports. These countries were followed by Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Canada, Italy, France, Russia, Poland, the UK, Indonesia, India, Malaysia and the Philippines, which together accounted for a further 30%.

Japan, with a CAGR of +7.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average technical textiles import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -2.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 3.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
