In 2022, the average import price for frozen lamb carcasses and half-carcasseses amounted to $955 per ton, waning by -16.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a precipitous slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $10,000 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for South Africa.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for South Africa amounted to -18.2% per year.
Imports of Frozen Lamb Carcasses and Half-Carcasses in Uganda
For the fourth consecutive year, Uganda recorded growth in purchases abroad of frozen lamb carcasses and half-carcasseses, which increased by 20% to 245 kg in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +19.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +71.3% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 0.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
