Meat Price in Canada (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average meat export price amounted to $4,019 per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 18% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $4,048 per ton, leveling off in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($5,339 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Philippines ($1,751 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+14.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average meat import price stood at $6,403 per ton in 2022, surging by 9.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($9,360 per ton), while the price for Germany ($4,092 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Meat Exports in Canada
In 2022, shipments abroad of meat decreased by -4.5% to 1.5M tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a slight increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 20%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 340K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, meat imports rose slightly to $1.9B in 2022.
