As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cheese and curd exports stood at $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Sudan (X tons) was the main destination for cheese and curd exports from Uganda, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, cheese and curd exports to South Sudan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Burundi (X kg), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Somalia (X kg), with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to South Sudan stood at X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Burundi (X% per year) and Somalia (X% per year).
In value terms, South Sudan ($X) remains the key foreign market for cheese and curd exports from Uganda, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Somalia, with a X% share.

Imports into Uganda
In 2022, purchases abroad of cheese and curd decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, cheese and curd imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, South Africa (X tons) constituted the largest cheese and curd supplier to Uganda, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, cheese and curd imports from South Africa exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Netherlands (X tons), with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from South Africa amounted to X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (X% per year) and the Netherlands (X% per year).
In value terms, South Africa ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Denmark ($X) were the largest cheese and curd suppliers to Uganda, with a combined X% share of total imports. France, Poland, Italy, Germany, the UK, Austria, Egypt, Kenya, the United Arab Emirates and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.
The United States, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
