In value terms, frozen crustaceans exports fell slightly to $X in 2023. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2022, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2023, Madagascar (X tons) was the largest exporter of frozen crustaceans, comprising X% of total exports. Namibia (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Mozambique (X%), Angola (X%) and South Africa (X%).

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to frozen crustaceans exports from Madagascar stood at X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, frozen crustaceans imports fell dramatically to $X in 2023. Overall, imports continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

South Africa was the major importer of frozen crustaceans in SADC, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2023.
