For the third year in a row, the German motorcycle, scooter and side-car market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 10% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption recorded a prominent expansion. Motorcycle, scooter and side-car consumption peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, motorcycle, scooter and side-car production totaled $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate buoyant growth. The Netherlands (X units) was the main destination for motorcycle, scooter and side-car exports from Germany, with a 32% share of total exports. Moreover, motorcycle, scooter and side-car exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Austria (X units), with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the Netherlands amounted to +24.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+25.5% per year) and Austria (+16.8% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for motorcycle, scooter and side-car exported from Germany were the Netherlands ($X), France ($X) and Austria ($X), together accounting for 38% of total exports. Italy, the United States, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, the UK, Poland, Norway, the Czech Republic and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.

Among the main countries of destination, the Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +30.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 33% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In general, imports continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 60%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 10%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
