Exports in Eastern Europe
Banana exports contracted notably to X tons in 2022, waning by X% on 2021. Total exports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in the Czech Republic ($X per ton) and Latvia ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) and Slovakia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of bananas, when their volume decreased by X% to X tons. In general, imports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, banana imports totaled $X in 2022. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Russia represented the key importer of bananas in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2022. Poland (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Ukraine (X%), the Czech Republic (X%) and Romania (X%). Belarus (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

At the same time, Romania (X%), Poland (X%), Slovakia (X%), the Czech Republic (X%) and Belarus (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported bananas in Eastern Europe, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with an X% share of total imports. It was followed by Ukraine, with an X% share.
In Russia, banana imports expanded at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (X% per year) and Ukraine (X% per year).
