For the third consecutive year, the CIS frozen whole turkey market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -7.1% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption, however, faced a abrupt descent. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, frozen whole turkey production shrank modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production recorded a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

The country with the largest volume of frozen whole turkey production was Belarus (X tons), accounting for 90% of total volume. Moreover, frozen whole turkey production in Belarus exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Russia (X tons), ninefold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Belarus was relatively modest.

In 2022, overseas shipments of frozen whole turkeys were finally on the rise to reach X tons after four years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt slump. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, frozen whole turkey exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a deep reduction. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Belarus represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 64% of total exports. Russia (X tons) took a 28% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (7.6%).

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to frozen whole turkey exports from Belarus stood at +3.4%. At the same time, Russia (+13.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +13.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-29.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Belarus (+49 p.p.) and Russia (+25 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Kazakhstan (-74.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Belarus was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (+9.3% per year) and Kazakhstan (-32.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, surging by 24% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a perceptible decline. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-3.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS

Frozen whole turkey imports rose sharply to X tons in 2022, growing by 5.6% compared with the previous year. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 145%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, frozen whole turkey imports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 124% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Uzbekistan represented the key importer of frozen whole turkeys in the CIS, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 63% of total imports in 2022. Azerbaijan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 27% share of total imports. Armenia (X tons), Tajikistan (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the frozen whole turkeys imports, with a CAGR of +742.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+24.0%), Kyrgyzstan (+12.4%), Tajikistan (+11.8%) and Belarus (+6.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-3.9%) and Armenia (-31.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Uzbekistan (+63 p.p.), Azerbaijan (+22 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+3.4 p.p.), Tajikistan (+2 p.p.), Kyrgyzstan (+2 p.p.) and Belarus (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Armenia (-22.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported frozen whole turkeys in the CIS, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Azerbaijan ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by Armenia, with a 7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Uzbekistan totaled +375.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Azerbaijan (+34.5% per year) and Armenia (-26.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -14.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+8.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
