The UK (22K tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8.7% share, followed by France (7.7%) and Belgium (5.1%). Cambodia (11K tons), the Czech Republic (8.7K tons), Spain (7.1K tons), Japan (6.8K tons), Slovakia (5K tons), Austria (4.9K tons), the Netherlands (4.9K tons) and Denmark (4.8K tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +78.5%), while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($299M), France ($184M) and Hong Kong SAR ($147M) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 48% share of global imports. The UK, Belgium, Spain, the Czech Republic, Japan, Austria, Denmark, Slovakia, the Netherlands and Cambodia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

Cambodia, with a CAGR of +56.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports By Type

Frozen domestic ducks, not cut in pieces (75K tons) and frozen cuts and edible offal of domestic ducks (59K tons) represented roughly 54% of total imports in 2022. Fresh or chilled domestic ducks, not cut in pieces (35K tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by fresh or chilled cuts and edible offal of domestic ducks (excluding fatty livers) (21K tons), fresh or chilled domestic geese, not cut in pieces (17K tons) and frozen cuts and edible offal of domestic geese (15K tons). All these products together took near 36% share of total imports. Meat and edible offal of domestic guinea fowls, fresh, chilled or frozen (11K tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key imported products, was attained by fresh or chilled domestic geese, not cut in pieces (with a CAGR of +3.1%), while imports for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest types of imported duck and goose meat were frozen cuts and edible offal of domestic ducks ($390M), frozen domestic ducks, not cut in pieces ($251M) and fresh or chilled cuts and edible offal of domestic ducks (excluding fatty livers) ($150M), together accounting for 60% of global imports. Fresh or chilled domestic geese, not cut in pieces, with a CAGR of +12.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main imported products over the period under review, while purchases for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices By Type

In 2022, the average duck and goose meat import price amounted to $5,349 per ton, picking up by 22% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was fatty livers of domestic geese, fresh or chilled ($33,728 per ton), while the price for frozen domestic ducks, not cut in pieces ($3,356 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
