Walnut Price in Portugal (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average walnut import price amounted to $2,363 per ton, falling by -21.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 23% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $4,286 per ton. From March 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Spain ($3,467 per ton), while the price for Chile ($2,023 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Walnut Price in Portugal (FOB) - 2022
The average walnut export price stood at $2,882 per ton in 2022, falling by -33.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 66%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $5,468 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($5,396 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($2,354 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Walnut Imports in Portugal
After three years of growth, purchases abroad of walnuts decreased by -30.9% to 904 tons in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 33%.
In value terms, walnut imports shrank markedly to $2.9M in 2022. In general, imports showed a deep setback.
