Vermouth Price in Italy (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average vermouth export price amounted to $2.7 per litre, with an increase of 6.5% against the previous month. Over the period from August 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 21% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2.8 per litre. From May 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($4.8 per litre), while the average price for exports to Portugal ($1.5 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Vermouth Price in Italy (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average vermouth import price amounted to $1.6 per litre, with a decrease of -41.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 66% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $6.0 per litre in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($4.7 per litre), while the price for Spain ($1.0 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+8.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Vermouth Exports in Italy
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of vermouth decreased by -7.6% to 120M litres in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 6.7%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 130M litres, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, vermouth exports reduced to $245M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $271M, and then dropped in the following year.

Vermouth Imports in Italy
In 2022, supplies from abroad of vermouth decreased by -10% to 2.3M litres, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 4.5% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 2.8M litres. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, vermouth imports soared to $4.7M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +11.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
