Uncured Cheese Price in China (CIF) - 2023
The average uncured cheese import price stood at $4,964 per ton in September 2023, falling by -3.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 3% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $5,410 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($7,551 per ton), while the price for Ireland ($3,905 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Uncured Cheese Price in China (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average uncured cheese export price amounted to $5,411 per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 a decrease of -7.2% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $6,331 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
From 2016 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Democratic People's Republic of Korea amounted to +8.0% per year.
Uncured Cheese Imports in China
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of unripened or uncured cheese, when their volume decreased by -23.3% to 60K tons. In general, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +48.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 53%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 78K tons, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, uncured cheese imports dropped to $291M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $322M, and then contracted in the following year.
