Petroleum Jelly Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average petroleum jelly export price amounted to $1,870 per ton, with a decrease of -5.2% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, petroleum jelly export price increased by +8.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 70%. The export price peaked at $2,717 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($4,866 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($1,439 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+11.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In December 2021, the average petroleum jelly import price amounted to $2,658 per ton, with an increase of 14% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated noticeable growth from December 2020 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.1% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, petroleum jelly import price increased by +53.4% against October 2021 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2021 an increase of 97% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3,147 per ton. From June 2021 to December 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was the UK ($4,123 per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($1,296 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+22.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Petroleum Jelly Exports in Malaysia

In 2022, the amount of petroleum jellies exported from Malaysia declined to 1.1K tons, waning by -6% against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 14%.

In value terms, petroleum jelly exports declined to $2M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 28% against the previous year.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +41.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 29%.

In value terms, petroleum jelly imports contracted to $1.6M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +51.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 37%.
