Maize Price in Peru (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average maize import price amounted to $227 per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 9.4% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $288 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($224 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($199 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (-0.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Maize Price in Peru (FOB) - 2021
The average maize export price stood at $3,616 per ton in April 2020, surging by 24% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2020 to April 2020, it increased at an average monthly rate of +7.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2020 when the average export price increased by 28% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $3,689 per ton. From March 2020 to April 2020, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In April 2020, the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,372 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($493 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2020 to April 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Chile (+11.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Maize Imports in Peru
In 2022, the amount of maize imported into Peru reduced slightly to 3.5M tons, with a decrease of -3.3% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a noticeable decrease. The smallest decline of -0.4% was in 2021.
In value terms, maize imports shrank slightly to $804M in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 6.3% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $829M, and then reduced in the following year.

Maize Exports in Peru

The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 9.4% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
