Banana and Plantain Price in Kazakhstan (CIF) - 2022
The average banana and plantain import price stood at $677 per ton in 2022, increasing by 13% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $716 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($962 per ton), while the price for Ecuador totaled $630 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ecuador (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Banana and Plantain Price in Kazakhstan (FOB) - 2022
The average banana and plantain export price stood at $584 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 75% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $949 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($836 per ton), while the average price for exports to Tajikistan totaled $342 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uzbekistan (+11.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Banana and Plantain Imports in Kazakhstan
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of bananas and plantains, when their volume decreased by -3% to 87K tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 63% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 89K tons, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
In value terms, banana and plantain imports stood at $59M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Banana and Plantain Exports in Kazakhstan
In 2022, shipments abroad of bananas and plantains decreased by -14.1% to 520 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -22.2% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 83% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 668 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, banana and plantain exports reduced to $304K in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 65% against the previous year.
