The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Zambia (X tons), making up a X% share of total exports.
South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of milk. At the same time, Zambia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Zambia (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest milk supplier in SADC, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Zambia ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Botswana was the major importer of milk in SADC, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Lesotho (X tons), Angola (X tons), Swaziland (X tons) and Namibia (X tons), together achieving a X% share of total imports. The following importers - Mauritius (X tons) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) - each finished at a X% share of total imports.
Botswana was also the fastest-growing in terms of the milk imports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X%), Swaziland (X%), Namibia (X%) and Mauritius (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Lesotho experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Angola (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Botswana (X p.p.), Swaziland (X p.p.), Namibia (X p.p.) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Lesotho (X p.p.) and Angola (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Botswana, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by X%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per ton), while Botswana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
