Exports by Country

Zambia was the major exporter of copper in the world, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 44% of total exports in 2021. Chile (X tons) held an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo (6%) and Bulgaria (5.2%). The following exporters - Slovakia (X tons), Namibia (X tons), South Africa (X tons), Spain (X tons), the United States (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) - together made up 16% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to copper exports from Zambia stood at +16.4%. At the same time, South Africa (+46.2%), Namibia (+15.6%), the Philippines (+14.2%), the United States (+8.0%), Slovakia (+1.5%) and Bulgaria (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Africa emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +46.2% from 2012-2021. Spain and Democratic Republic of the Congo experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Chile (-4.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Zambia (+27 p.p.), South Africa (+2.7 p.p.) and Namibia (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global exports from 2012-2021, the share of Spain (-1.6 p.p.), Bulgaria (-1.9 p.p.), Democratic Republic of the Congo (-3.7 p.p.) and Chile (-23 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Zambia ($X) remains the largest copper supplier from Puerto Rico, comprising 45% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with an 18% share of global exports. It was followed by Bulgaria, with a 7.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Zambia amounted to +21.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Chile (-3.3% per year) and Bulgaria (+4.8% per year).

In 2021, China (X tons) represented the key importer of copper, committing 56% of total imports. India (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Namibia (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Canada (X tons) and Germany (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 33% share of total imports. The following importers - South Korea (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Australia (X tons) - together made up 7.7% of total imports.

Imports into China increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Namibia (+33.3%), India (+23.1%), Canada (+19.0%) and Austria (+3.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Namibia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +33.3% from 2012-2021. South Korea experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belgium (-4.2%), Germany (-6.7%) and Australia (-25.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of India (+8.4 p.p.), Namibia (+7 p.p.), China (+6.9 p.p.) and Canada (+3.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global imports from 2012-2021, the share of South Korea (-2 p.p.), Germany (-3.3 p.p.), Australia (-6.7 p.p.) and Belgium (-9.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
