Domestic Appliances Market Size in Poland

After two years of growth, the Polish domestic appliances market decreased by -8.3% to $X in 2021. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

Exports from Poland

In 2021, shipments abroad of domestic appliances was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 11%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, domestic appliances exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +69.6% against 2016 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Germany (X units) was the main destination for domestic appliances exports from Poland, accounting for a 26% share of total exports. Moreover, domestic appliances exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X units), threefold. France (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany amounted to +9.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (-0.9% per year) and France (-0.9% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for domestic appliances exports from Poland, comprising 27% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 9.2% share of total exports. It was followed by the UK, with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany totaled +9.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+2.6% per year) and the UK (+3.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average domestic appliances export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 12% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 17% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Denmark ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Denmark (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Poland

In 2021, approx. X units of domestic appliances were imported into Poland; increasing by 14% against the previous year's figure. In general, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +72.1% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, domestic appliances imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 28%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest domestic appliances supplier to Poland, with a 35% share of total imports. Moreover, domestic appliances imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (X units), with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +6.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+13.5% per year) and Italy (+3.2% per year).

In value terms, China ($X), Germany ($X) and Italy ($X) appeared to be the largest domestic appliances suppliers to Poland, together comprising 62% of total imports. Turkey, the Netherlands, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, South Korea, Russia, Ukraine and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.

Among the main suppliers, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +44.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average domestic appliances import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 8.4% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while the price for Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+16.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
