In 2023, the average yield of carrots and turnips in Latin America and the Caribbean shrank slightly to X tons per ha, therefore, remained relatively stable against the year before. Overall, the yield, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2023, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2022, and then fell modestly in the following year.
In value terms, carrot and turnip exports expanded significantly to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 with an increase of X%. The level of export peaked in 2023 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
In 2023, Mexico (X tons) represented the main exporter of carrots and turnips, achieving X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Guatemala (X tons), making up a X% share of total exports. Costa Rica (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Mexico was also the fastest-growing in terms of the carrots and turnips exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Guatemala (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2023, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2023, it increased at an average annual rate of X%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the export price increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Costa Rica ($X per ton), while Guatemala ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Overall, imports saw a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

El Salvador was the major importer of carrots and turnips in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2023. Trinidad and Tobago (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Paraguay (X%). Honduras (X tons), Guyana (X tons), Uruguay (X tons) and Aruba (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into El Salvador increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Uruguay (X%), Honduras (X%), Guyana (X%) and Aruba (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uruguay emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Trinidad and Tobago and Paraguay experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2023, the share of El Salvador, Honduras, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and Uruguay increased by X, X, X, X and X percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2023, dropping by X% against the previous year. Over the last eleven years, it increased at an average annual rate of X%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2022, and then dropped in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Aruba ($X per ton), while Paraguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
