Over the period under review, exports recorded a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 75%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, narrow woven fabric exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -12.7% against 2019 indices. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Ukraine (X tons), Romania (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of narrow woven fabric exports from Hungary, together accounting for 44% of total exports. These countries were followed by Slovakia, Bulgaria, Germany, Serbia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Morocco, Italy, Slovenia, Spain, North Macedonia and Austria, which together accounted for a further 49%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Morocco (with a CAGR of +157.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for narrow woven fabric exported from Hungary were Romania ($X), Bulgaria ($X) and France ($X), together comprising 36% of total exports. Ukraine, Germany, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovenia, Serbia, North Macedonia, Austria, Italy, Morocco and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 55%.

Among the main countries of destination, Morocco, with a CAGR of +112.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 69% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was North Macedonia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Morocco ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports saw a perceptible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 115%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, narrow woven fabric imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Romania (X tons) constituted the largest narrow woven fabric supplier to Hungary, with a 43% share of total imports. Moreover, narrow woven fabric imports from Romania exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (X tons), with a 7.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Romania stood at +9.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-1.3% per year) and Italy (+1.8% per year).

In value terms, the largest narrow woven fabric suppliers to Hungary were Germany ($X), Romania ($X) and Italy ($X), with a combined 58% share of total imports. Austria, France, Taiwan (Chinese), China, Turkey, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Slovakia and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.

Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +46.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average narrow woven fabric import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 281% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
