Hardboard Market Size in ECOWAS

As a result, the exports reached the peak of X cubic meters. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, hardboard exports dropped sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 373,008%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The biggest shipments were from Cote d'Ivoire (X cubic meters), together resulting at 100% of total export.

Cote d'Ivoire was also the fastest-growing in terms of the hardboard exports, with a CAGR of -2.8% from 2012 to 2022. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) also remains the largest hardboard supplier in ECOWAS.

In 2022, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per cubic meter, surging by 9.5% against the previous year. Export price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, hardboard export price decreased by -4.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 123%. Imports in ECOWAS

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of hardboard, when their volume decreased by -4.8% to X cubic meters. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 56% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X cubic meters in 2021, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

In value terms, hardboard imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 59%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Sierra Leone (X cubic meters) and Nigeria (X cubic meters) were the key importers of hardboard in 2022, recording near 31% and 29% of total imports, respectively. Guinea (X cubic meters) held the next position in the ranking, distantly followed by Cabo Verde (X cubic meters) and Gambia (X cubic meters). All these countries together held approx. 32% share of total imports. Benin (X cubic meters) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cabo Verde (with a CAGR of +20.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Sierra Leone ($X) and Guinea ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 79% share of total imports. Cabo Verde, Gambia and Benin lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Cabo Verde, with a CAGR of +19.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, surging by 24% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per cubic meter), while Benin ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+5.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
