Avocado Market Size in Costa Rica

In 2022, the Costa Rican avocado market decreased by X% to $X for the first time since 2015, thus ending a six-year rising trend. In general, consumption, however, recorded moderate growth. Avocado Production in Costa Rica

The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, avocado exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of X%. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

Exports by Country

Israel (X tons) was the main destination for avocado exports from Costa Rica, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, avocado exports to Israel exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Guatemala (X tons), fivefold. Panama (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, avocado imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a noticeable setback. Nicaragua (X tons), Mexico (X tons) and the Dominican Republic (X tons) were the main suppliers of avocado imports to Costa Rica, together comprising X% of total imports. Guatemala, Peru, Colombia, Chile and Honduras lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.
