The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2023, overseas purchases of eggplants (aubergines) were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2020, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a slight decline. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, eggplant imports surged to $X in 2023. In general, imports, however, showed a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Azerbaijan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons), together comprising a X% share of total imports. The following importers - Armenia (X tons), Belarus (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) - together made up X% of total imports.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Azerbaijan (X%), Armenia (X%), Kyrgyzstan (X%) and Moldova (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Belarus (X%) and Kazakhstan (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Azerbaijan (X p.p.), Armenia (X p.p.), Moldova (X p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2023, the share of Russia (X p.p.) and Kazakhstan (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported eggplants (aubergines) in the CIS, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Azerbaijan ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a X% share.
