The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2023 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

South Africa prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Zimbabwe (X tons), creating a X% share of total exports.

Moreover, Zimbabwe emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. From 2012 to 2023, the share of Zimbabwe increased by X percentage points.

The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ferro-chromium imports fell markedly to $X in 2023. In general, imports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

South Africa was the largest importer of ferro-chromium in Africa, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons), Mauritius (X tons), Zambia (X tons) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), together constituting a X% share of total imports. Tunisia (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Mauritius (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest ferro-chromium importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($X), Egypt ($X) and Zambia ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports. Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tunisia, Mauritius and Ghana lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.
