Yams Price in Cameroon (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average yams export price amounted to $1,079 per ton, growing by 4.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,406 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($1,624 per ton), while the average price for exports to Equatorial Guinea ($239 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+11.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Yams Price in Cameroon (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average yams import price amounted to $813 per ton, with a decrease of -17.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price faced a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $3,075 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Nigeria.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Nigeria amounted to -12.5% per year.
Yams Exports in Cameroon
In 2022, overseas shipments of yams decreased by -15.7% to 37 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +20.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +72.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 50%.
In value terms, yams exports shrank to $40K in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +20.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +74.8% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 52%.

Yams Imports in Cameroon
For the fourth consecutive year, Cameroon recorded growth in purchases abroad of yams, which increased by 17% to 25 tons in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 126% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, yams imports fell slightly to $20K in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +21.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +78.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 73% against the previous year.
