Wire and Cable Price in Kenya (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average wire and cable import price amounted to $4,575 per ton, waning by -1.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 14% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $5,380 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($10,778 per ton), while the price for Malawi ($839 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Wire and Cable Price in Kenya (FOB) - 2022

The average wire and cable export price stood at $5,813 per ton in 2022, waning by -9.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a mild decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 22%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $6,671 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($10,193 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ethiopia ($4,041 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burundi (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Wire and Cable Imports in Kenya

In 2022, approx. 13K tons of insulated wire and cable were imported into Kenya; flattening at 2021. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, wire and cable imports fell slightly to $58M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 1.5%.

Wire and Cable Exports in Kenya

In 2022, shipments abroad of insulated wire and cable decreased by -0.2% to 858 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 9% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 860 tons, leveling off in the following year.

In value terms, wire and cable exports dropped to $5M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 25%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $5.5M, and then shrank in the following year.
