Whole Fresh Milk Price in Switzerland (CIF) - 2023
The average whole fresh milk import price stood at $675 per ton in August 2023, flattening at the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 8.8% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $694 per ton. From February 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($707 per ton), while the price for France totaled $664 per ton.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+1.4%).
Whole Fresh Milk Price in Switzerland (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average whole fresh milk export price amounted to $1,169 per ton, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $1,204 per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($1,372 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($628 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Whole Fresh Milk Imports in Switzerland
In 2022, overseas purchases of whole fresh milk decreased by -1.6% to 26K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 6.9% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 26K tons, and then fell modestly in the following year.
In value terms, whole fresh milk imports shrank modestly to $15M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $15M, leveling off in the following year.

Whole Fresh Milk Exports in Switzerland
For the third year in a row, Switzerland recorded decline in shipments abroad of whole fresh milk, which decreased by -51.5% to 1.2K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a significant decrease. The smallest decline of -4.6% was in 2021.
In value terms, whole fresh milk exports contracted remarkably to $1.4M in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a sharp curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by less than 0.1%.
