The average vaccine import price stood at $581,832 per ton in 2022, picking up by 9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average import price increased by 426%. The import price peaked at $1,153,994 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($1,031,086 per ton), while the price for India ($55,239 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average vaccine export price stood at $1,012,851 per ton in 2022, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,030,753 per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($5,146,563 per ton), while the average price for exports to Iceland ($72,316 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to New Zealand (+37.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Vaccine Imports in Denmark
In 2022, supplies from abroad of vaccines for human medicine decreased by -45.3% to 248 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 505%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 453 tons, and then fell significantly in the following year.
In value terms, vaccine imports declined dramatically to $144M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted significant growth.
