Unvulcanised Rubber Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average unvulcanised rubber import price stood at $3,387 per ton in August 2023, waning by -3.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 10% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3,657 per ton. From January 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($7,565 per ton), while the price for Japan ($2,297 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Unvulcanised Rubber Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average unvulcanised rubber export price amounted to $3,712 per ton, which is down by -11.2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2023 when the average export price increased by 11% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $4,180 per ton, and then contracted in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($4,743 per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($650 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Unvulcanised Rubber Imports in the United States
Unvulcanised rubber imports into the United States totaled 171K tons in 2022, surging by 5.9% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, unvulcanised rubber imports expanded remarkably to $592M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +58.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 42%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
