The average tobacco refuse export price stood at $824 per ton in 2022, reducing by -81.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, posted measured growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 485% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $4,545 per ton, and then reduced notably in the following year.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Indonesia.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for France amounted to +20.3% per year.

In 2022, the average tobacco refuse import price amounted to $20,727 per ton, which is down by -28.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 3,594%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $29,148 per ton, and then declined markedly in the following year.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($26,000 per ton), while the price for South Korea totaled $20,200 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+28.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the third year in a row, Thailand recorded decline in overseas shipments of tobacco refuses, which decreased by -57.5% to 45 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a dramatic descent.
