In July 2023, the average tobacco refuse import price amounted to $1,167 per ton, waning by -8.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 73% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1,998 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Croatia ($6,184 per ton), while the price for Italy ($431 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Croatia (+26.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Tobacco Refuse Imports in Hungary
In 2022, overseas purchases of tobacco refuses decreased by -14.5% to 2K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports faced a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 21%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 3.3K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, tobacco refuse imports dropped remarkably to $1.2M in 2022. Overall, imports showed a precipitous shrinkage. The smallest decline of -7.8% was in 2020.
