Tin Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2022
The average tin import price stood at $33,868 per ton in 2022, surging by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, tin import price increased by +96.9% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 78%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($41,066 per ton), while the price for Germany ($24,435 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Tin Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023
The average tin export price stood at $33,014 per ton in July 2023, surging by 12% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 13% against the previous month. The export price peaked in July 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was France ($65,997 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($27,887 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Tin Imports in the Netherlands
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of tin, when their volume decreased by -40.5% to 9K tons. Overall, imports, however, saw a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 162% against the previous year.
In value terms, tin imports dropped remarkably to $303M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 134%.

Tin Exports in the Netherlands
In 2022, shipments abroad of tin decreased by -59% to 6.7K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports, however, showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 217%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 17K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, tin exports fell markedly to $213M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 138% against the previous year.

According to October World Bank’s forecast, the average annual tin price should drop from an expected $31,250 per ton in 2021 to $31,000 per ton in 2022.
Tin prices rose to record levels in response to high demand from the electronics industry and a severe supply shortage on the market. The deficit has been driven on by pandemic-related decreases in mining output in 2020, the shipping container crisis and a drop in exports due to supply-chain disruptions. Prices are forecast to fall only in 2022 thanks to ramped-up mining output and supply and demand returning to equilibrium.
