The average spices; saffron import price stood at $1,030,167 per ton in 2022, rising by 75% against the previous year. Overall, the import price enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average import price increased by 422% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,414,595 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from India ($1,053,238 per ton) and Spain ($1,053,122 per ton), while the price for Australia ($784,000 per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($1,000,125 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+20.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
