The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +44.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 38% against the previous year. In 2022, Italy (512M litres) was the key exporter of sparkling wine, generating 46% of total exports. France (237M litres) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Spain (179M litres). All these countries together held approx. 37% share of total exports. Germany (35M litres), Latvia (31M litres) and Belgium (26M litres) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Italy increased at an average annual rate of +10.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Latvia (+31.1%), Belgium (+27.2%) and France (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Latvia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +31.1% from 2012-2022. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Spain (-3.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Italy (+22 p.p.), Latvia (+2.5 p.p.) and Belgium (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while France and Spain saw its share reduced by -2.8% and -17.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, France ($4.9B) remains the largest sparkling wine supplier worldwide, comprising 53% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($2.2B), with a 24% share of global exports. It was followed by Spain, with a 5.8% share.
