Sorghum Price in Canada (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average sorghum import price amounted to $314 per ton, growing by 90% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $320 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($501 per ton), while the price for the United States stood at $309 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+6.0%).
Sorghum Price in Canada (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average sorghum export price amounted to $319 per ton, increasing by 11% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 151% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $977 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,021 per ton), while the average price for exports to China stood at $250 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+41.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Sorghum Imports in Canada
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of sorghum, when their volume decreased by -51.5% to 7.1K tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed modest growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 15K tons, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, sorghum imports declined to $2.2M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.5% over the last three years.
