Soft Drink Price in Nigeria (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average soft drink import price amounted to $1.2 per litre, increasing by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 43%. The import price peaked at $3.7 per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($3.5 per litre), while the price for South Africa ($0.7 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+11.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Soft Drink Price in Nigeria (FOB) - 2022
In June 2022, the average soft drink export price amounted to $637 per thousand litres, growing by 32% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when the average export price increased by 202% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $701 per thousand litres in June 2021; however, from July 2021 to June 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1.0 per litre), while the average price for exports to Ghana ($399 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2021 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+21.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Soft Drink Imports in Nigeria
In 2022, supplies from abroad of soft drinks decreased by -5.8% to 35M litres, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports saw a sharp reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 99M litres. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, soft drink imports skyrocketed to $42M in 2022. Overall, imports faced a deep reduction. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $68M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Soft Drink Exports in Nigeria
In 2022, approx. 2.9M litres of soft drinks were exported from Nigeria; with an increase of 22% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a dramatic contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 411%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 12M litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, soft drink exports surged to $2.2M in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a dramatic curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 371%. The exports peaked at $8.1M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
