Sawnwood (Non-Coniferous) Price in Italy (CIF) - 2023
The average sawnwood (non-coniferous) import price stood at $697 per cubic meter in July 2023, rising by 3.8% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 9.2% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $704 per cubic meter. From May 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,009 per cubic meter), while the price for Lithuania ($239 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sawnwood (Non-Coniferous) Price in Italy (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average sawnwood (non-coniferous) export price amounted to $285 per cubic meter, shrinking by -7.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 9.6% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $998 per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($528 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($129 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (-8.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Sawnwood (Non-Coniferous) Imports in Italy
For the fourth consecutive year, Italy recorded growth in purchases abroad of sawnwood (non-coniferous), which increased by 33% to 2.6M cubic meters in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 108% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, sawnwood (non-coniferous) imports surged to $421M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 24%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
