Rendered Pig Fat Price in Serbia (CIF) - 2023

In October 2023, the average rendered pig fat import price amounted to $1,769 per ton, growing by 6.1% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $1,902 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to October 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Montenegro ($2,099 per ton), while the price for Italy stood at $1,744 per ton.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Montenegro (+2.5%).

Rendered Pig Fat Price in Serbia (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average rendered pig fat export price amounted to $1,633 per ton, rising by 21% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 73%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($1,780 per ton), while the average price for exports to Montenegro ($1,629 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+9.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Rendered Pig Fat Imports in Serbia

In 2022, purchases abroad of lard and other pig fat (rendered) decreased by -15.9% to 1.9K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +27.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 2.3K tons, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

In value terms, rendered pig fat imports declined to $3.6M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 117% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $3.6M, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

Rendered Pig Fat Exports in Serbia

After three years of growth, shipments abroad of lard and other pig fat (rendered) decreased by -36% to 124 tons in 2022. Overall, exports saw a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 40%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 194 tons, and then shrank notably in the following year.

In value terms, rendered pig fat exports fell notably to $203K in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $262K, and then declined markedly in the following year.
