The average import price for steel, stainless stood at $10,463 per ton in December 2023, rising by 350% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $10,657 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to December 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($20,865 per ton), while the price for Poland ($5,136 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+8.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for steel, stainless stood at $7,321 per ton in December 2023, approximately equating the previous month. In general, the export price showed a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 24% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $9,646 per ton. From July 2023 to December 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was India ($42,015 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($6,157 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
