The average import price for steel, stainless stood at $2,538 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 51% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $4,405 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($3,478 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($118 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average export price for steel, stainless amounted to $6,635 per ton, with an increase of 2.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a resilient increase. The export price peaked at $8,908 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($25,814 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bangladesh ($3,696 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Seychelles (+34.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
