The average import price for spices; nutmeg, crushed or ground stood at $12,250 per ton in May 2023, increasing by 4.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated strong growth from May 2022 to May 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +7.1% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on May 2023 figures, spices; nutmeg, crushed or ground import price increased by +37.3% against February 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 an increase of 95% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $13,271 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to May 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($18,337 per ton), while the price for Latvia ($7,172 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for spices; nutmeg, crushed or ground amounted to $12,348 per ton, growing by 1.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 9.5%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $16,408 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($18,233 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($6,920 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+33.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
