The average import price for silicon; containing by weight less than 99.99% of silica stood at $3,126 per ton in January 2024, surging by 2% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 816% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $55,119 per ton. From March 2023 to January 2024, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($18,294 per ton), while the price for Iceland ($3,038 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+9.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average export price for silicon; containing by weight less than 99.99% of silica amounted to $58,893 per ton, surging by 9.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 300% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($108,681 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($3,000 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+21.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
