Price for Platinum; Unwrought or in Semi-Manufactured Forms in China (CIF) - 2023

In December 2023, the average import price for platinum; unwrought or in semi-manufactured formses amounted to $39.3M per ton, approximately reflecting the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 an increase of 19% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $60.6M per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to December 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($52.7M per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($11.1M per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average export price for platinum; unwrought or in semi-manufactured formses stood at $31,650,934 per ton in 2022, rising by 54% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 58%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $49,042 per kg. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($61,269,694 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($6,231,263 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+301.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Platinum; Unwrought or in Semi-Manufactured Forms in China

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of platinum; unwrought or in semi-manufactured formses decreased by -20.7% to 136 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 45% against the previous year.

In value terms, imports of platinum; unwrought or in semi-manufactured formses shrank dramatically to $7.7B in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 117% against the previous year.

As a result, the exports reached the peak of 5.7 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, exports of platinum; unwrought or in semi-manufactured formses expanded remarkably to $15M in 2022. Overall, exports faced a sharp decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 228% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $282M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a lower figure.
