In November 2023, the average export price for plants, live; bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, crowns and rhizomes, dormants amounted to $247 per thousand units, approximately mirroring the previous month. In general, export price indicated a temperate increase from November 2022 to November 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.6% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on November 2023 figures, export price for plants, live; bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, crowns and rhizomes, dormants decreased by -4.1% against September 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 62% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $293 per thousand units in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to November 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($383 per thousand units), while the average price for exports to Canada ($136 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kazakhstan (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for plants, live; bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, crowns and rhizomes, dormants stood at $0.3 per unit in 2022, declining by -2.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a measured increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average import price increased by 63%. The import price peaked at $0.3 per unit in 2021, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1.5 per unit), while the price for New Zealand ($0.1 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+21.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

After two years of decline, shipments abroad of plants, live; bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, crowns and rhizomes, dormants increased by 33% to 3.6B units in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a deep reduction. The exports peaked at 6.1B units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, exports of plants, live; bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, crowns and rhizomes, dormants rose slightly to $1.1B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 17%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
