In November 2023, the average import price for plants, live; bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, crowns and rhizomes, dormants amounted to $4.7 per unit, increasing by 1,132% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a significant increase. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($10.8 per unit), while the price for Lithuania totaled $896 per thousand units.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+46.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In September 2023, the average export price for plants, live; bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, crowns and rhizomes, dormants amounted to $168 per thousand units, with an increase of 82% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 178% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $617 per thousand units in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to September 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Estonia ($1.3 per unit), while the average price for exports to Armenia ($44.0 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+33.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth consecutive year, Latvia recorded growth in overseas purchases of plants, live; bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, crowns and rhizomes, dormants, which increased by 12% to 20M units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 61%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, imports of plants, live; bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, crowns and rhizomes, dormants rose significantly to $5.6M in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 205% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
