In November 2023, the average export price for oils and products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar; xyloles amounted to $1,088 per ton, shrinking by -11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 12% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $1,299 per ton in September 2023; however, from October 2023 to November 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In November 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Italy ($1,114 per ton) and the Czech Republic ($1,112 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($1,056 per ton) and Slovenia ($1,058 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average import price for oils and products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar; xyloles stood at $1,006 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 47% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a perceptible reduction. The import price peaked at $1,404 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,227 per ton), while the price for Poland ($732 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (-0.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Exports of Oils and Products of the Distillation of High Temperature Coal Tar; Xylole in Slovakia
In 2022, overseas shipments of oils and products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar; xyloles decreased by -14.4% to 38K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 8.5%.
In value terms, exports of oils and products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar; xyloles soared to $42M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +95.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 57% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
