The average nickel; unwrought, not alloyed export price stood at $23,190 per ton in July 2023, reducing by -4.3% against the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 12% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $28,329 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were China ($24,208 per ton) and the Netherlands ($24,002 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($20,768 per ton) and Germany ($21,274 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Exports of Nickel; Unwrought, Not Alloyed in Finland
Nickel; unwrought, not alloyed exports from Finland rose rapidly to 33K tons in 2022, growing by 6.3% compared with 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -19.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 78%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 41K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, nickel; unwrought, not alloyed exports surged to $836M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +52.1% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
