Price for Natural Rubber and Gum in Brazil (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average natural rubber and gum import price amounted to $1,231 per ton, waning by -2.2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 6.7% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,869 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Thailand ($1,282 per ton) and Guatemala ($1,239 per ton), while the price for Cameroon ($1,068 per ton) and Vietnam ($1,181 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (-3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Price for Natural Rubber and Gum in Brazil (FOB) - 2022
The average natural rubber and gum export price stood at $9,427 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -57.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted pronounced growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 178%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $23,046 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($277,857 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bolivia ($4,082 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Colombia (+50.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Natural Rubber and Gum in Brazil
In 2022, overseas purchases of natural rubber and gums decreased by -7.5% to 33K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 15%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 36K tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, natural rubber and gum imports reduced to $59M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 69% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $64M, and then fell in the following year.
