In 2022, the average import price for hot-rolled wire rods in coils amounted to $445 per ton, rising by 3.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a perceptible downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 18%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $696 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($889 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($229 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+0.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of hot-rolled wire rods in coils decreased by -55.2% to 15K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a precipitous shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 12%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 53K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, hot-rolled wire rod in coils imports declined notably to $6.7M in 2022. In general, imports recorded a sharp shrinkage. The smallest decline of -30.6% was in 2020.
